Rathmore Community Council is going to the dogs. A special race night will take place on Saturday October 12th at Kingdom Greyhound Stadium Tralee to help with thefundraising for development of the new Rathmore Community Playground. Community support is never found wanting in Rathmore and is wanted now more than ever to develop a badly needed community playground for our young people. We are grateful to I.R.D. Duhallow and Kerry County Council for their support. The support of businesses and community for this enjoyable community fundraising event is being called for. All assistance and help to complete this project will be gratefully accepted. The playground will be completed by December.
Recent Community Council Activities Pride of place group in conjunction with the community council did a lot of work to enhance the area and Rathmore achieved joint second place in its category in the national competition. A feasibility study was carried out in the area and the first project to be undertaken as a result of the study was the Linear Lighting along the footpath between Rathmore Village and Convent place. The lighting has proved extremely popular among the community. The next major project is the playground which is estimated to cost in the region of 130,000 euro. This project is seventy five per cent funded by IRD Duhallow and 25% or €32,500 must be raised locally. Hence this “Night at the dogs” fundraiser. The playground which is next door to the Community Centre will be of huge benefit to the children of Rathmore and the surrounding areas.
