The Holy Family made it three out of three for a second year in a row. They became Cumann Na mBunscoil East Kerry 6/8 teachers champions after defeating Fossa N.S,Currow N.S, and Faha N.S. They then went on to defeat Dromclough N.S. in the final of 6/8 teacher Cumann Na mBunscoil. This led them onto a place in the Div 1 Final where they met the Mon of Killarney, this was a great game of football, both sides fought hard till the end and the holy family Rathmore won on a score line of 0-9pts to 0-4pt. A great achievement, and well done to all the boys and teachers for all the hard work done this year.

This digital production is inspired by the 1937/38 Schools Manuscript Collection. It features this print collection in audio format. The written stories of 1937/38 are recalled in audio by the pupils of 10 schools, namely Knockagree, Holy Family, Rathmore, Knockaclarig, Boherbue, Hollymount, Rockchapel, Gneeveguilla, Meentogues, Tureencahill and Ballydesmond. The pupils link the past with the present in this production giving the listener an interesting perspective into the past as relayed by the present. JJ. O'Shea who is very well known in broadcasting circles and an authority on all musical genres visited the schools and collected the content. JJ's skills in collecting, his rapport with the pupils, his editing and producing has given us this beautiful archive of the life and times in the Duhallow area in the late 1930s. It is a splendid and valuable production and a collector's item. JJ is to be congratulated on the patient and painstaking efforts he put into the project. IRD is to be congratulated on thinking up, taking on and progressing this very pertinent initiative. It is a mighty promotion for the schools in the locality giving the pupils an excellent and splendid platform to showcase their many skills in public speaking, singing and reciting not to mention their musical talents. Contact your local school for one of these prized CDs for €5 and enjoy the link between the past and the present. |
